Dr. Harmeet Sachdev is a highly respected neurologist and longtime leader in stroke treatment, stroke education, and stroke prevention in the San Jose community. He joined Good Samaritan Hospital as a practicing neurologist in 1986. Since 1997, he has served as Director of the Good Samaritan Hospital Stroke Center.

Dr. Sachdev has played a pioneering role in advancing acute stroke care in the San Jose area. He was the first physician in the San Jose area to administer t-PA (tissue plasminogen activator) to treat stroke. He also created the first dedicated stroke team at a community hospital. His work demonstrated that timely and effective acute stroke treatment could be provided outside major academic medical centers.

Before joining Good Samaritan Hospital, Dr. Sachdev practiced neurology privately in San Jose beginning in 1980. His decades of clinical experience have focused on improving outcomes for people affected by stroke. He has also worked to expand access to effective stroke care in the community.

Stroke Research and Education

Dr. Sachdev has served as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Neurology at Stanford University Medical Center since 1993. He has contributed to the medical field through approximately two dozen research papers, presentations, and studies on stroke treatment and prevention.

He has also served as principal investigator for six neuroprotective studies. These studies examined potential ways to protect the brain and improve outcomes following stroke. His contributions to stroke education have been recognized multiple times by the American Heart Association and the American Academy of Neurology.

Through his clinical work, research, and teaching, Dr. Sachdev has helped advance awareness of stroke symptoms. He has also emphasized the importance of rapid treatment and effective stroke prevention.

Education and Medical Training

Dr. Sachdev completed his neurology residency and chief residency at Stanford University Medical Center and its affiliated hospitals. He also completed internal medicine residency training at Sinai Hospital at Wayne State University, hospitals affiliated with the University of Wales in the United Kingdom, and the Post Graduate Institute of India.

He is an affiliate of the Western States Consortium and a member of the national Stroke Council. His extensive clinical, research, and academic experience continues to advance stroke care and stroke awareness in San Jose and beyond.
