“SAF is an exceptional organization with a dedicated Board of Directors. Their goals of educating the community to recognize stroke symptoms and encouraging hospitals to become certified stroke centers coupled with the availability of new wonder drugs that must be administered immediately after onset of stroke provides a strong solution to a significant health challenge.”

Gary B. Allen
President and CEO
The Health Trust

“It is critical that the public has the same sense of urgency about learning the signs and symptoms of stroke as they do about cardiac events. The Stroke Awareness Foundation is providing an invaluable service in making stroke awareness more prevalent in our community. I am confident that their work will lead to saving lives.”

Jeff Clet, Fire Chief
San Jose Fire Department

The Health Trust is a public benefit corporation dedicated to improving the health and quality of life for people in Santa Clara County. It encourages the development of expanded capacity to address community health issues. The Health Trust has been a strong supporter of the Stroke Awareness Foundation since its inception in 2002. The Health Trust is assisting the Stroke Awareness Foundation with startup money and back-office administrative assistance which allows the Foundation to more quickly build capacity which in turn will reduce stroke victims’ rehabilitation time.

The Stroke Awareness Foundation was instrumental in helping Good Samaritan Hospital, Kaiser Permanente Medical Center and Stanford Stroke Center become certified. SAF intends to:

  • Encourage and support hospital certification
  • Support coordination of new certified stroke centers and emergency medical
    services

Joint Commission accreditation is recognized nationwide as a symbol of quality that reflects an organization’s commitment to meeting certain performance standards.

Stroke Awareness Foundation is working with both the San Jose Fire Department and AMR Ambulance Services to change protocol and explore ways to rapidly direct and transport stroke victims to certified stroke centers. In addition, Stroke Awareness Foundation will be providing training and educational materials to local emergency medical services personnel so that they can better recognize stroke symptoms.

In an effort to help our visitors to this web site, we have included a list of Joint Commission Certified Stroke Centers, throughout the country. This is updated monthly.
